In 1963, Fo Guang Shan founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun came to Malaysia for the first time by joining the “Republic of China Buddhist Missionary”. Twenty years later, Venerable Master Hsing Yun came to Malaysia once. Subsequently, Fo Guang Shan promotes Humanistic Buddhism in Malaysia for many years till today. As one of the major Buddhist organizations in Malaysia, by promoting localisation and integration of Buddhism with the human world, it is said that the very first cause and condition is connected to Venerable Master’s initial vows.
Fo Guang Shan Malaysia introduces Buddhism to the public through various channels such as culture, arts, charity and cultivation. Fo Guang Shan Malaysia created a brand new page in the development of Buddhism in Malaysia by propagating its philosophy, promoting the vows of a human Bodhisattva and through collective creativity in order to spread the Dharma to benefit sentient beings.
From Chinese New Year Lantern and Floral Festival, to the promotion of songs from Sounds of the Human World, from the development of Fo Guang publications, to the high quality exhibitions by Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery, all these activities help to present the rich and exciting aspects of Humanistic Buddhism in a multicultural, multireligion, multi-ethnic society.
In order to commemorate 50 years of founding Fo Guang Shan, to celebrate Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s 90th birthday and to celebrate 2016 Malaysia’s Hua Hui Arts Festival, Fo Guang Shan Malaysia organizes the 2016 “Pass On The Good Songs” charity concert to raise funds for temple construction of Hsing Ma Temple’s education center and to promote the four main essences of Fo Guang Shan, namely propagating the Dharma through cultural endeavors, nurturing talents through education, benefitting society through charity and purifying people’s minds through cultivation.
Hsing Ma Temple is led by Fo Guang Shan Singapore and Malaysia’s chief abbess Venerable Jue Cheng, who emulates the practice of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, to lead the masses through system and the spirit of collective creativity, to promote the essence of Fo Guang Shan, to realise the action and vows of the bodhisattva, so as to become the largest Buddhist cultural and education center in South East Asia, which creates a brand new page for Buddhism in the new era.
