Hornland Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Sibu, which was founded by Mr. Chen Ing Kuan in 1955. It aims to provide a professional dance platform, as well as to explore local arts and culture through dance. The name is derived from ‘The Land of Hornbill’ and the inspiration of the magnificent Rejang River. These form the basis for dance forms which is symbolizing the multi-cultural nation of Sarawak. All Hornland dancers receive training in ballet, contemporary, cultural dances, and yoga.
Since 1996 Hornland has created more than 100 short pieces of dance and was the only dance group to win the top 2 awards (gold and silver) in the 20th National Chinese Dance Festival in Kuala Lumpur, a record yet to be broken.
Hornland has been invited to perform in the towns in Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, China, and Korea.
Hornland has organized Sibu International Dance Festival consecutively every year since 2012. In August 2017, the festival will be having the 6th edition.
